BMD is powering futures with the award of the contract for the first stage of the Port to REZ Project for EnergyCo and Transport for NSW from the Port of Newcastle to Elong Elong in New South Wales.

This project will see upgrades and modifications at 19 locations over more than 300 kilometres along the New England, Golden, and Castlereagh Highways.

The Port to REZ Project is designed to facilitate the efficient and timely transportation of oversize over-mass (OSOM) vehicles, carrying critical components such as wind turbine parts, high-voltage transformers, and synchronous condensers. These upgrades are essential for domestic energy security including the construction of transmission and generation projects within the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone.

This project highlights BMD’s expertise in delivering regional road upgrades across a vast area, as explained by BMD NSW/ACT Operations Manager Yiannis Stavreas.

"BMD is leveraging our extensive experience and performance on the Newell Highway Program Alliance for Transport for NSW. We’re known for our willingness to problem solve with the client and work as a collective team. Achieving mutual success is our goal, and we are excited to embark on this journey together."

"We are committed to resourcing and programming the works efficiently to meet the critical EnergyCo milestone dates. These deadlines are essential in the larger scheme of the renewable energy transition, and we are proud to play a part in this significant effort, creating legacies for future generations”, he said.

With works scheduled to begin in late April 2025, key improvements as part of the program will include upgrades and modifications at 19 locations, including new turning lanes and safety measures. These enhancements aim to ensure the smooth passage of OSOM components as well as reduced delay times and easier travel through intersections for all road users.
