Darwin Ship Lift empowers the Territory with $58.8M awarded locally
This significant project milestone reflects the team’s steadfast commitment to ensuring that the benefits of this project are felt throughout the Territory.
Clough BMD JV is driving a positive impact across the Territory through the creation of jobs and business opportunities. By working closely with the Northern Territory Government, they are focused on providing opportunities for Territorians to build stronger and more sustainable businesses through the lifespan of the project and beyond.
One of the standout achievements is the awarding of one of the largest subcontractor contracts to Wilga Indigenous Corporation, a proud Northern Territory Indigenous-owned corporation. Dedicated to sustainable practices, community collaboration, and economic empowerment, Wilga Indigenous Corporation has been awarded $16.9 million to supply 430,000 tonnes of rock for construction.
In addition to the supply of quarry materials, the additional local subcontracts include surveying, geotechnical services, maintenance, traffic control, construction equipment and civil construction services.
Project procurement wins include:
- 21 employees on the project identifying as Indigenous
- 12 subcontracts have been awarded to Indigenous enterprises
- 58% of the workforce are Territory locals.
Owned by the Northern Territory Government, the ship lift facility will establish Darwin as a key maritime maintenance centre in northern Australia. It will service the defence, energy, pearling, fishing and coastal cruising industries providing wet and dry berths for vessel wash down, blasting, painting and general maintenance facilities on a common user basis.
The Clough BMD JV is proud to support local businesses and communities through our commitment to local procurement. Together, we're building a stronger future for the Northern Territory!
