BMD begins construction on Stage 2 of Riverway Drive
Improving safety and traffic congestion for 17,000 motorists daily, BMD will deliver upgrades to 3.1 kilometres of Riverway Drive, including widening a 1.6-kilometre section to four lanes; constructing median treatments and right-hand turns for another 1.5-kilometre section; public transport upgrades including pedestrian and bikeway improvements; and new traffic signals.
The project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, with the Australian Government contributing $76 million and the Queensland Government contributing $19 million and is set to directly support more than 140 local jobs.
BMD Regional Manager – NQ and NT Michael Peterson said the contract was a testament to the confidence Department of Transport and Main Roads has in BMD’s capabilities.
“Having successfully delivered the first stage of Riverway Drive, we’re excited to further contribute to the growing Townsville region,” he said.
“BMD has proudly worked in Townsville for almost 30 years, with this project an opportunity for our experienced team to continue working with our established supply chain to facilitate skills development, work opportunities and community benefits.”
