Redland developers Urbex and Harridan welcome the unlocking of Southern Thornlands to address critical housing shortage
Major Thornlands landholders Urbex (a BMD Group company) and Harridan have welcomed the Queensland Government’s announcement to unlock the Southern Thornlands for housing development to meet local demand for affordable homes.
Southern Thornlands has been designated as a Priority Development Area (PDA) following the landmark South East Queensland Regional Plan, Shaping SEQ 2023, which reclassified the Southern Thornlands locality within the “Urban Footprint” and outlined the need for nearly 900,000 new dwellings to be constructed by 2046.
Located in one of the fastest-growing regions in South East Queensland, the PDA will transform Southern Thornlands and address the region’s critical housing needs.
General Manager of Urbex Carl Bruhn extends congratulations to the Crisafulli Government and Economic Development Queensland for their commitment to unlocking the pathway to address the critical short supply of new residential communities.
“The Redlands has one of the lowest number of homes available for sale or rent in South East Queensland,” Mr. Bruhn said.
“That means there’s just not enough houses for young Redlands people who want to start a family, or for empty nesters or grandparents who want to downsize but stay close to the places they love.”
Urbex and Harridan’s long history of innovative design and proven track record of delivering award winning communities across South East Queensland, are the ideal partners to assist in the fast track delivery of housing for the Queensland Government’s aspirational building target – Homes for Queenslanders.
“Urbex and Harridan are committed to delivering a broad, attractive and affordable housing mix for people in the Redlands, with a planned early release of land bordering Springacre Road – subject to approvals,” Mr Bruhn said.
“This is more than just about housing. We want to create a community with a place for everyone – for our mums, our grandparents, our children and people who need housing that is affordable.
“The Southern Thornlands is a key piece in the wider plan to ensure we can cater to the housing needs of a region that is growing at an extraordinary rate, with more than 2.2 million people expected to call it home over the next 20 years.”
