BMD builds on long-term relationship with Melbourne Airport through delivery of Retarding Basin upgrade
New developments in the Melbourne Airport Business Park have been equipped with essential stormwater drainage infrastructure.
The successful completion of the Sharps Road Retarding Basin project builds on almost two decades of delivering key infrastructure upgrade projects for Australia Pacific Airports Melbourne (APAM).
BMD Urban in collaboration with designer GHD and administrator Blueken maximised the stormwater detention capacity of the retarding basin. Featuring two bio-retention basins and a 5000m3 capacity sediment pond, it is capable of withstanding a 1 in 100-year rain event.
Upstream stormwater from the developed Macedon Way precinct is temporarily stored in the retarding basin until it can flow into downstream Melbourne Water drainage assets.
These upgrades ensure that downstream drainage discharge does not surpass the pre-development stormwater flow as infrastructure projects continue upstream in the Macedon Way precinct.
BMD Urban Construction Manager Michael Creagh credited the successful delivery of the Sharps Road Retarding Basin project to excellent collaboration and skilled personnel.“For 17 years, BMD has proudly delivered top-tier infrastructure for APAM – showcasing our robust systems, management, talent, and technical expertise,” Michael said.
“The Sharps Road Retarding Basin is a significant achievement, complementing our portfolio of successful projects delivered for APAM including road and transport upgrades, electrical infrastructure, storage facilities and stormwater works,” he said.
The delivery of the Sharps Road Retarding Basin project builds on our capacity to deliver exceptional land development and water infrastructure projects for public and private clients.
