BMD Constructions awarded Mount Crosby Weir Bridge contract
BMD Constructions is delighted to be working with Seqwater on the construction of a new vehicle bridge at Mount Crosby. The new bridge will be more flood resilient, with the design and specification in accordance with current safety and engineering design standards.
The existing single-lane Weir Bridge, currently connecting the suburbs of Kholo and Mount Crosby across the Brisbane River, will be repurposed and converted into a pedestrian and cyclist friendly pathway positioned alongside the new dual-lane vehicle bridge. Although the existing bridge suffered significant damage during the extreme weather event in February 2022, the 96-year-old landmark will be retained and repurposed to preserve its historical significance.
The construction of the new dual-lane vehicle bridge will improve the flow of traffic for the growing community whilst significantly increasing the vehicle capacity on the bridge itself. The construction of dual lanes will also ensure larger vehicles such as buses and trucks can utilise the crossing.
This multi-million-dollar project is part of the East Bank Flood Resilience Program, a program of work to improve flood resilience and connectivity within the growing area.
