BMD completes Townsville Airport’s new apron
BMD Constructions has delivered a $10 million upgrade to expand and resurface the apron at Townsville Airport.
Our highly experienced airside team worked in close collaboration with Townsville Airport to deliver 18,000 square metres of parking space, with no interruption to existing airport operations over the project’s duration. This has increased the airport’s ability to facilitate jet aircraft by 33% at peak times, and provides for overflow parking for the airport services precinct.
Having been established in Townsville for more than 24 years, BMD’s team is highly experienced in the delivery of complex projects across northern Queensland and utilised local labour, subcontractors and suppliers to deliver the upgrade.
Through close collaboration with Townsville Airport and the principal designer, BMD delivered innovative engineering solutions to overcome challenging ground conditions.
With an uncompromised commitment to the safety of our people and the public, the project was completed with zero lost time injuries.
The apron project was jointly funded by Townsville Airport and the state government, with the airport contributing $1 million and the balance funded by an interest-free loan under the state government’s catalyst infrastructure program.
