New Mount Crosby Vehicle Bridge opens to traffic

The Mount Crosby Vehicle Bridge has opened to traffic, with the new bridge delivering greater flood resilience and connectivity for the Mount Crosby and local communities.

BMD Constructions was awarded the project by Seqwater after the existing single lane weir bridge received substantial damage during an extreme weather event in 2022.

Approximately three metres higher than the existing weir bridge, and with a combination steel and concrete guardrail to better withstand flooding, the new bridge provides a more flood-resilient route and delivers improved traffic flow over the Brisbane River in Mount Crosby.

BMD Constructions General Manager of Queensland and the Northern Territory, Rob Pickard, said the high-quality asset delivered is a result of collaborative contracting and innovative engineering.

“BMD is proud to have worked closely and collaboratively with Seqwater to deliver the new Mount Crosby Vehicle Bridge that will see improved flood resilience and connections for road users, and the local communities."

“Our strong 45-year history and connections in South East Queensland have enabled us to leverage local suppliers and support local jobs, to efficiently and safely deliver this important piece of infrastructure,” Mr Pickard said.

The project formed part of the East Bank Flood Resilience Program, a program of work to bolster flood resilience in Mount Crosby.
