About the project

BMD Urban and Empower Engineers & Project Managers were engaged by Logan City Council for the design and construction of a new multi-lane road from School Road to Entrance Street. BMD Urban was contracted to increase the road to two lanes in each direction, divided by a central median. Chambers Flat Road is located in Loganlea, approximately 40 kilometres south of Brisbane’s CBD.

Scope

Vegetation clearing and bulk earthworks

construction of unbound pavements

Installation of asphalt

Relocation of underground and overhead services including
Energex, Telstra, Optus, water and sewer

Major culvert and drainage works

Installation of traffic signals at two intersections

Installation of street lighting

Construction of shared pedestrian and cycle pathway

Outcomes

BMD Urban together with Empower were able to provide design and construction support throughout the project. The project team managed all separable portions of the project including property resumptions.

Traffic management was crucial for the project team with over 2.5 kilometres of road to manage throughout the project. To minimise impacts to the public and residents nearby, works were staged to maintain traffic flows where possible and side tracks were installed to ensure safe access to properties bordering the site.

The installation of the culvert extension over Schmidt Creek was completed without any incidents or lasting impacts on the surrounding environment.
