About the project
BMD was contracted to undertake earthworks and linear construction works for the new landfill cell 2E, located at the Browns Plains Waste and Recycle Facility. The project overcame several challenges including successfully processing, testing and storing all excavated materials to eliminate the need to import fill, resulting in cost savings for the client.
Scope
22,300m2 of fabric lining including geosynthetic clay liners and cushion geotextile
33,000m3 of cut excavation
16,100m2 of separation geotextile
7300m3 of selective clay excavation
33,000m3 of material processing for design requirements
800 metres of leachate collection system
Outcomes
BMD worked closely with the client and consultant undertaking geotechnical investigations to prove the quality of onsite materials for use as clay liner and protection materials. This allowed specification requirements to be reduced, providing a cost- effective alternative to importing all materials. By excavating below the subgrade, BMD was able to deliver 7,300m3 of clay material required to line the cell, providing a cost-effective alternative to importing materials.
