About the project
Set to become Brisbane’s premier industrial precinct, the future Airport Industrial Park will include 100 hectares of master planned land, unrivalled connectivity to transport networks, airside access, 24/7 operations, and ample onsite parking. BMD Urban was contracted to upgrade and widen Boronia Road for the future Airport Industrial Park.
Scope
10,000m2 of pavement constructed
680m2 of concrete pathways
800 metres of stormwater drainage ranging from 375 to 1200 millimetres in diameter
21 stormwater chambers including four large 3.6 x 2 metre precast square stormwater chambers and a custom six pipe insitu headwall outlet structure
280 metres of sewerage reticulation installation, with pipes ranging from 150 to 250 millimetres in diameter and ranging from 1 to 4 metres deep
610 metres of water reticulation with pipes measuring 150 millimetres in diameter
600 metres of new streetlighting cable and five streetlights including directional drilling of new road crossings for conduit installation
Outcome
The project team worked collaboratively to integrate Brisbane Airport Corporation’s mandatory Notice of Risk Activity (NORA) board into the project planning, to ensure all team members were aware of which NORA’s were in place and risks were identified and managed effectively.
BMD Urban overcame several challenges throughout the project including the identification of acid sulphate materials and the widening and relining of a large tidal drain which constantly contained water. In addition, the team installed large stormwater pipework and four large precast square chambers underneath Brisbane Airport aircraft landing travel path utilising craneage. This was done through successful planning with no disruptions to the airport’s operations.
