About the project

As part of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System's (MWSS) long-term plan to improve water supply and delivery to Metro Manila, several projects have been slated for development and execution, including the crucial Tayabasan Weir 2 Project, delivered by the Wawa JVCo Inc.

PrimeBMD was engaged to construct a weir; a 25-metre-high roller compacted concrete structure designed to deliver 80 million litres per day and a pump station to offtaker Manila Water Co. Inc and MWSS.

Scope

The design and construction of a weir with an FSL at 166.5 metres equipped with a free weir, ogee crest, ogee spillway and stilling basin to safely pass the design flood, a bottom outlet and eco-flow release system

All the required fittings and equipment for main power supply and backup power supply comprising first private pole, MVSG, transformer, LVSG, and diesel generator

A conveyance pipeline and suction pipeline with a diameter of 700mm and 900mm respectively, with a length of 650 metres, equipped with complete accessories such as valves and surge vessels

A temporary access road of roughly 650 metres that ran parallel to the conveyance pipeline

A pumping station with a capacity of 80 million litres per day

Design, procurement, and installation of hydro-mechanical equipment and instruments

Outcomes

This project - completed two months ahead of time - has increased the water supply capacity of Manila Water by 80 million litres per day, which is being distributed across 500,000 homes in the east concession zone.
