About the project

BMD’s work at the Brisbane Airport included the installation of new, and replacement of existing water infrastructure in and around the airport precinct, external road network and car parks.

    Scope

The project was essential to coping with the growing precinct and comprised of a high volume of water assets

Installation of 1700 metres of sewer rising main, predominantly adjacent to an existing smaller sewer rising main including mild steel cement lined (MSCL) and unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (uPVC)

Installation of 450 metres of new water main

Installation of 265 metres of deep sewer gravity

Directional drilling of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe

    Outcomes

With an emphasis on prior planning and investigative work to identify all existing known and unknown services within the project’s footprint, BMD successfully:
    • managed high-risk undocumented existing services networks
    • methodically worked to safely locate services, whilst installing new networks with zero interruption to airport services, as well as managing the services requirements of an adjacent building contractor
    • scheduled higher-risk works at night and installed temporary bypasses to keep the building contractor online
    • maintained positive relations with key stakeholders including Brisbane Airport Corporation, contractors, cab companies, valet parking operator, and car park operator.
