About the project

BMD Constructions was contracted to commission two new clarifiers at the Douglas Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to increase the plant resilience and provide additional water security for the growing Townsville population.

As part of Townsville’s Drinking Water Scheme, the new infrastructure provides the ability to treat 950 litres of raw water per second through the module 3 clarifier and 1100 litres per second through the module 4 clarifier.

Outcomes

Managed international logistical delivery delays throughout the COVID-19 pandemic which impacted 32 containers of the proprietary lamella equipment. Through rescheduling the construction program of the clarifiers, BMD Constructions was able to initially deliver and commission a single clarifier. This allowed plant operators, Trility, to continue water treatment operations without further delaying water delivery to the Townsville community

Partnered with Aquatec Maxcon to redesign the filtration lamella systems, providing superior clarifiers for the effective removal of turbidity, leading to substantial improvement to the filter run time

Implemented a local first approach, employing Townsville contractors and suppliers to deliver the project
