About the project
Scope
Eight kilometres of trenching, installation and commissioning of twin 66KV feeders and approximately two kilometres of conduit for a future 22KV upgrade
550 metres of thrust boring, including a dual 81 metre bore with 900 millimetre steel casing under the Stuart Highway, the main Adelaide to Darwin railway line and local council roads
Reconstruction of 1.6 kilometres of service roads
Outcomes
BMD pioneered new methodologies for the project specific fluidised thermal backfill which was used to achieve a highly specified electrical resistivity tolerance and was one of the first and largest applications in Australia.
The project team achieved an accelerated program through the engagement of additional resources and by fostering of close working relationships with local authorities, suppliers and subcontractors.
By working closely with the client to perform ‘in field’ redesigns across the entire eight kilometre route, BMD successfully overcame significant conflicts with service networks and completed over 100 service crossings with zero damage to existing underground and overhead assets including gas, fibre, optic, water and associated infrastructure.
The project team successfully managed cultural heritage considerations on the project bearing in mind the project route crossed 14 identified cultural heritage areas.
