About the project
JMac Constructions (JMac) was engaged for the design, clearing and construction of the Mount Louisa Walking Track, as part of stages 1A to 1F of the project. The three kilometre track is the first formalised, Council managed track on Mount Louisa and the first work to be undertaken as part of the Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan by Townsville City Council.
Scope
Establishment of a track to allow two-way pedestrian traffic including earthworks and rock works
Installation of 1733 precast concrete steps and landings
Supply and installation of recycled plastic park benches and bollards, and recycled park seats
Installation of peninsula shelter with C2 cyclone rating
Installation of a custom drinking fountain including supply and installation of associated water piping
Installation of signage at lookout points, entrance and along the trail
Construction of 3088m2 of geohex pavement
Installation of bin stand and bin
Outcomes
JMac developed a new methodology for installing the steps which eliminated manual handling risks and expedited the installation program, allowing a greater number of steps able to be installed per day. This led to the extension of JMac’s works to include an additional two stages of works, within the original timeframe.
With a proactive approach to safety and the protection of the local environment during works, JMac safely executed the works with minimal disturbance to the surrounding natural bushland despite the tight project footprint
