About the project
The Kauri Parade Community and Sporting Precinct is one of the City of Holdfast Bay’s three main hubs for sport and recreation. Approximately 3 hectares in size, the precinct provides both open space and structured sporting facilities and is home to several sporting, recreation and community groups, including Seacliff Hockey Club, Seacliff Tennis Club, Seacliff Sport Club and Holdfast Bay Music Centre.
BMD was engaged through an early contractor involvement model to design and construct the public infrastructure project, which allowed our project team to optimise the design in all aspects including constructability.
Scope
Clearing and demolition works
Earthworks involving cut and fill
Relocation of land fill waste
Construction and installation of 10 tennis courts and two interchangeable sport courts
Construction of 8000m2, 150 millimetre thick suspended concrete slab
Installation of 540 steel, concrete filled driven piles
Installation of gabion retaining wall
Installation of all stormwater, water and electrical services
Installation of 12 light poles and switchboard
Installation court ancillary items including fencing, netting, asphalt, plexipave, line marking, shade shelters, and drinking fountains
Outcomes
During construction, the team placed a heavy focus on the environmental aspects of the project, as the construction site was located on top of a redundant landfill site. The complex earthworks on contaminated land were performed with no noise, dust, or water contaminants leaving the site or affecting workers or the public.
