About the project

To cope with the country’s growing economy and to address increasing imports, the International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) contracted PrimeBMD to design and construct an extension and the reclamation of South Yard at the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT).

The works on the MICT Berth 7 - Southern Yard Extension involved reclaiming 33,000 square metres of land and constructing a 150-metre-long wharf in Manila Bay to support the handling of an increasing volume of container van shipments.

Scope

Dredging of bay up to 13.5m deep and disposal of dredged spoil material

Demolition, disposal, and replacement of existing mooring dolphin

Construction of a 150-metre-long wharf extension and bulkhead

Installation of all wharf furniture including crane rails, fenders, bollards, storm tie downs, stow pin locators

Partial removal of the rock revetment at the current seaside boundary of the container yard

Piling works

Construction and installation of storm drainage, electrical power and control, and fire system facilities

Extension of RTG beams

Construction of concrete pavement and markings

Outcomes

The construction of Berth 7 has led to a significant increase in the import and export operations of the Philippines’ largest container terminal - the Manila International Container Terminal.

The completed works at MICT have reflected the excellent performance of the Prime BMD team. Works were completed ahead of schedule and well within budget. As a result of the project, Prime BMD was awarded by the client ICTSI the Supplier of the Year for Category 4 – Construction, with an Average Rating of 99.82%.

Always striving for HSEQ Excellence and Zero Harm, safety protocols were instilled on the project including: daily safety meetings, the establishment of an emergency response team, and conducting drills including fire drills.

The team also participated in coastal clean-up drives to contribute to environmental preservation.
